SET&DUNN is a macOS application designed for DJs who want to organize their music library, build harmonically smooth sets, and prepare crates faster. It reads your existing Serato Crates folder, displays BPM, Key, Rating, Grouping and other ID3 metadata side by side, and adds powerful harmonic mixing tools — including a fully automatic playlist generator that respects your BPM curve, key journey, energy zones and rating filters. It works alongside your existing DJ software, not as a replacement for it.

SET&DUNN is designed specifically for Serato users. It reads from your Serato Crates folder out of the box (default location: ~/Music/_Serato_) and saves crates in Serato's native .crate file format. Ratings, Groupings and inline edits are written to the audio files as standard ID3 tags, so they remain visible to any software that reads ID3 metadata. SET&DUNN also reads playlists from your Apple Music / Music.app library if you have one.

No. SET&DUNN works exclusively with local audio files stored on your Mac (MP3, M4A/AAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC) and your local Serato and Apple Music / Music.app libraries. It cannot access, play, or organise tracks from streaming platforms such as Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music streaming, SoundCloud Go, or Beatport LINK, because those services do not provide downloadable local files that DJ software can read or tag. If a track exists as a real file on your drive, SET&DUNN can read it, tag it, and add it to crates; streamed or DRM-protected content is not supported.

SET&DUNN requires macOS 12 (Monterey) or later. The app is a universal binary and runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5) and Intel Macs. Performance scales with your hardware — newer chips, more RAM, and a fast SSD result in quicker crate loading, library indexing and Auto Playlist generation, particularly on large libraries. On older or entry-level Macs, the app remains fully responsive for typical libraries; only the very first scan of a large library may take a moment longer.

Yes. SET&DUNN includes a 7-day free trial with the following limitations: 1 Crate Builder tab (instead of 3), maximum 20 tracks per crate, Auto Playlist capped at 10 tracks, single-track editing only for ratings, groupings and rating emojis, and external drag-and-drop export disabled. Internal drag and all browsing/preview functionality work without restriction so you can fully evaluate the harmonic mixing engine. After the trial expires, a license is required to continue using the app.

Each license key is valid for one computer at a time, but is fully transferable — you can deactivate it on one machine and activate it on another whenever you need to. A license includes all updates within the current major version (for example, all 1.x releases). Future major version upgrades (such as 2.0) may be offered free of charge or at a reduced upgrade price for existing license holders.

SET&DUNN only writes standard metadata tags (Title, Artist, Year, Genre, Label, Comment, Grouping, Rating, and Rating Emoji) directly into your audio files using the same conventions as iTunes, Music.app, and Serato. The audio data itself is never touched. The app uses the appropriate tag container per file type: ID3v2 for MP3/AIFF/WAV, MP4 atoms for M4A/AAC, and Vorbis comments for FLAC. Supported formats: MP3, M4A/AAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC. All writes are processed safely to prevent corruption. As with any tool that writes tags, we recommend keeping a backup of your library — but in normal use, edits are safe and reversible via the built-in Undo system (up to 50 steps). You can undo with ⌘Z and redo with ⇧⌘Z; while you're typing in a text or search field, the normal macOS undo/redo applies there instead.

Harmonic mixing is the practice of mixing tracks whose musical keys sound good together. The Camelot Wheel is a system that assigns every musical key a number (1–12) and a letter (A for minor, B for major) — keys that are close on the wheel mix harmonically. SET&DUNN integrates the full Camelot Wheel into every column, every filter, and the Auto Playlist engine. You can switch the display between Camelot, Classic (Am, C Major) or Open Key (6m, 6d) notation in Settings. Right-click any track and choose “Show Mixable Tracks” to instantly see all harmonically compatible tracks in your library. A built-in Harmonic Key Table (next to the Harmonic Filter) shows all 24 Camelot keys and their compatible keys for each mix type, as a quick on-screen reference.

Find In Crates is a quick way to see which of your visible crates already contain a selected track. Select a track in the main list and click Find In Crates at the top, or press ⌘L. A small window lists every visible crate that contains that track and updates as you select different tracks. It is read-only and never changes your crates or Serato files. If the track is not found, it shows Not found in visible crates.

SET&DUNN is fundamentally an offline application — your library, crates, and playlists are read and written locally on your Mac. An internet connection is only needed for two optional features: license activation (an occasional online check; between checks, the app works fully offline) and the Metadata Lookup feature when you choose to look up Year or Genre across MusicBrainz, Apple Music, Last.fm or Discogs. All harmonic mixing, Auto Playlist generation, ID3 tagging and crate management work fully offline — perfect for gigs, travel, and studios with limited connectivity.

In Settings → License → Deactivate, click Deactivate to release the license from the current Mac. Then install SET&DUNN on the new computer, open Settings → License, and enter the same key. The app re-activates online and you are ready to go. There is no support ticket required and no cooldown period. Each license key remains tied to your purchase forever — only the active computer changes.

SET&DUNN reads your Serato crates read-only and never writes to or changes Serato's own library or crate files. It writes your edits directly into the audio files as standard ID3 tags, but Serato caches its own metadata database. To see the updated tags in Serato, go to the Files panel and click “Rescan ID3 Tags” (called “Re-scan File Info” in some Serato versions — same function). You can also drag a track selection onto that button to rescan only those tracks.⚠ Important: Do not click “Re-Analyze Files” — that rebuilds Serato's beatgrids, cue points, and waveforms, which can overwrite your existing analysis. Use “Rescan ID3 Tags” only.

All your library data (crates, playlists, settings, undo history) is stored locally on your Mac. Your license state is kept in the macOS Keychain. Nothing about your music — file names, BPMs, ratings, listening habits — ever leaves your computer. The only outbound network calls are: license validation (only your license key + a hardware ID), and optional Metadata Lookup queries (only the artist/title you ask about, sent to MusicBrainz/iTunes/Last.fm/Discogs). No analytics, no tracking, no telemetry. For troubleshooting, the app also keeps local diagnostic logs on your Mac (automatically deleted after 30 days, viewable via Settings → Diagnostics & Logs) — these never leave your computer either.
